A: SEO is a series of technical marketing techniques used to improve a web site's rankings in search engines like Google. Identifying good keywords, developing quality links, code validation and content markup are central to SEO.

Q: How is SEO different from SEM?

A: SEM or Search Engine Marketing encompasses all aspects of search marketing including PPC, SEO, affiliate programs, social media campaigns, etc.


Q: I already do PPC, do I need to do SEO? What's the difference?

A: fficient clients with the proper analytics in place have found that organic search (SEO) leads to many more sales than paid online advertising. Some find that SEO visits convert to sales more than ten times better than PPC.

A well configured PPC or Pay-Per-Click advertising campaign is active instantly but can cost a crapload. PPC is also vulnerable to click fraud, a very nasty and costly trick your competitors can use to undermine your PPC efforts. Additionally, PPC's efforts disappear the second you stop paying. PPC has no effect on your page's ranking in search engines.

SEO on the other hand is slower to start, taking from one to three months to get into high gear. But the rest is all good news. With SEO you're impervious to competitors' attacks and SEO effects are long lasting, allowing you to conquer new sets of terms regularly as your past efforts continue to succeed.


Q: As a client, what's in my fficient monthly report?

A: We'll ask what you want to see in SEO reports and do our best to accommodate your wishes. We'll suggest a few figures, graphs and charts that we consider the bellwethers of the field. We'll also include a password protected online monthly detailed report chock full of ranking trends and information, if you're into that sort of thing!


Q: What is black hat SEO? (And what's white hat SEO?!)

A: White hat describes SEO that uses safe, best practices recommended by the search engines. Black hat techniques are specifically frowned upon by the search engines. So what? If Google finds out you're using black hat SEO, they'll punish you. How? They can punt your site to the bottom of the results or remove your site from their directory altogether.


Q: Does fficient offer references from other clients?

Q: What about complimentary, non-SEO marketing?

A: SEM, press releases, and other traditional marketing efforts work well with SEO campaigns. We recommend a strategy encompassing a broad suite of complimentary marketing techniques to meet your goals. We're happy to discuss a comprehensive vision with you.


Q: How do you find the best keywords for my business?

A: First we'll ask you to describe your business and market, and ask you to provide a few suggested seed keywords. Then we'll massage this data and feed it to our database tools. From this we get hundreds of related search terms along with information about how many people are searching for them and how many other web sites are competing with you for the traffic. We'll whittle the results down to a few valuable key phrases tailored to your goals and budget. Identifying keywords is the most interactive client/consultant phase. After a few rounds of calls or emails, we're ready to take the reigns and not bug you as much!


Q: My site was delisted/banned from Google! Can you help?

A: Yes. If you're banned or blacklisted from Google or any other search engine we can work with you to get listed again. We'll perform an audit to make sure you're using only recommended tactics and then communicate as much to the search engine so they'll index your site again.


Q: Why do I have to sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to work with fficient?

A: We won't disclose any of your information to other parties without your permission and we expect the same from our clients. Signing a NDA is a simple way to make sure that's understood. Our NDA can end two years after our last business interaction if required.


Q: Do we have to sign a contract to enter into a business relationship with fficient?

A: No. We only sign contracts if it's what you want. We typically bill every month. Some clients are billed hourly, some hire fficient on monthly retainer. The only things binding us together in a business relationship are the results we deliver each month. If you ever want to sever our relationship, all you have to do is notify us. We'll cease work immediately and send your final invoice. We agree to as much via email, which is just as good as a signed contract, legally speaking.
